Methods of Winding Your Newborn Baby

This is something that you are going to be doing with young babies, and quite frequently! As you do the feed, and after the feed. Basically, it happens in the middle of a feed, when you've started feeding your baby a bit and then you'd normally have a pause and stop halfway through. Or when baby starts to get a little uncomfortable.

Sometimes baby's can be very eager to feed and probably feed a bit too quickly, and they get too much air in their tummies, and remember their tummies are very tiny. So it's a good idea to take this time to sit baby upright, make sure baby is comfortable.

And to just massage baby's back, do a nice circular motion and a gentle pat as well. Whatever suits your baby and you will find some positions that you will seem to suit, the other thing is, remember to have the bibs on and also to make sure that you have a muslin square. Because, chances are, baby will bring up some of the feed. And that's fine, that's normal.

Most babies take in a little too much feed, and as I said before, they have tiny tummies. Another option is to think about putting your baby over your shoulder, this is a position that a lot of parents tend to use. It can be quite popular, and comfortable for baby.

So once you have baby on your shoulders, then just do the same circular motion and maybe a little bit of patting. Hold baby quite securely and hopefully you will get a little bit of a burp. And if you don't, don't worry. Just go back to feeding baby, but remember to do it at the end of the feed.

So take the time to burp baby in the middle and also at the end, and try not to rush - that's the most important thing. Not to make feeding a rushed affair, try and take the time to be with your baby.
