Holding your baby in a proper breastfeeding position is important for getting a good latch and preventing nipple pain. Watch the video to get tips on how to prepare for a comfortable breastfeeding session and to see the five most common breastfeeding techniques.

1. The Cradle Hold

Turn your baby's chest toward your chest. Cradle your baby's head in the crook of your arm. Bring your baby up to your breast. Keep your baby's bottom under your arm. Hold your baby's body close to yours.

2. The Cross-Cradle Hold

The cross-cradle works with either arm! Support your baby's neck and shoulders. Your baby's head is free to move.

3. The Underarm Hold

Hold your baby at your side. Support your baby's neck and shoulders. If you like, support yourself with cushions. Great for twins or after a c-section.

4. Lying Down

Curl toward your baby. Rest your breast on the bed. Turn your baby's chest toward your chest. Help your baby find your breast. Snuggle up.

5. Lying Back

Support your back. Lie back. Rest your baby on your chest. Let your baby find her way. Great if you have a fast flow. Find a position that works for you.
