Best Breastfeeding Tips for New Moms

A few interesting tips about breastfeeding. Maybe a little bit of a factoid here and there. One is that you can do this. There's no . . . in most cases, there's really nothing that can't be fixed. If you're having any kind of problem, a lactation consultant will fix that problem. So don't ever hesitate and think, "Oh my God, I can't do this," if you're having any kind of issue at all.

Another tip is that if you feel like there's a little bit of a dip in your supply . . . sometimes it can come from stress. From severe stress. There are always ways to get your milk supply up. So you don't have to worry about that either. Just because you've seen a little bit of a hit does not mean that your milk supply is dead in the water. It doesn't mean it's done. You can always bring that up.

You will also find that you will probably be very, very thirsty when you're breastfeeding, and you're going to be a little bit hungrier. And it's okay to eat. Your body actually burns 500 extra calories . . . 500 calories a day breastfeeding, so you need to eat those extra 500 calories. There's no dieting during the breastfeeding time. Your baby . . . your body is going to burn that amount. So you need to eat well, you need to drink well, and you need to rest as best you can.
