Frequency of Exercise During Pregnancy

Exercising three-four times per week is recommended for pregnant women. Recent research indicates that women who exercise five or more times per week have substantially increased odds for a low birth weight baby. Pregnant women who exercised two or fewer times per week have modestly increased odds for a low birth weight baby.

• Helps prevent gestational diabetes
• Helps prevent preeclampsia
• Helps decrease rates of cesearean deliveries
 
CDC recommends 150 minutes of exercise per week or 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week.
 
No excercise or minimal exercise in the past?
• Start with 5 or 10 minutes per day.
• Slowly work up to 30 minutes per day.
