Here’s a video that truly brought me to tears, and I think it’ll have the same effect on you. Brittany was pregnant with her second daughter. She and her husband Matthew decided to film a beautiful documentary following their home birth journey.
The entire video is stunning, but it’s Matthew’s dedication and support that viewers find so overwhelming. The moment he climbs into the water to support Brittany as she goes through the delivery process is truly something special.
Water birth is essentially as simple as it sounds. A woman labours and gives birth while in a tub filled with warm water. Some women choose to labour in water, but not actually birth in the water. Labouring in water has the same benefits as a waterbirth, up until the second stage.
Keep the temperature of the water at or below 37ºC at all times (35º-37º is optimum during the first stage of labour and 37º-37.5º during the second). If you become overheated it can cause distress to the baby and discomfort to you.
