Natural Caesarean: A Baby Delivering Itself During a C-Section

Natural caesareans are performed by making an incision into the womb and bringing the baby’s head outside of the mother’s body. The baby is then left to wriggle and push its way out of the womb on its own.

As seen in the eye-opening video, after doctors make a small incision, they ease the baby's head out. It is then left to maneuver its shoulders out alone, which takes up to four minutes — far longer than typical C-sections.

In a natural caesarean babies are lifted out more slowly and the umbilical cord is not cut straight away. There is also time for the mother and father to have skin contact with their newborn more quickly.

The technique is meant to create a closer bond between mother and child, and feels closer to the experience of an unassisted birth than a traditional c-section.

The new method, which is going viral thanks to a video of the procedure, is on the rise because it supposedly gives the baby a slower, calmer, less distressing entry into the world and assists with maternal bonding.
