Why Should I Vaccinate My Baby?

Simply put, the vaccinate prevents serious illnesses that can cause disability or even death. Some diseases for example polio that would once have caused serious harm and death to thousands of children worldwide has now been almost completely eradicated.

A doctor at my stage of their career will never have seen a case of polio and this is completely due to the use of vaccinations. Unfortunately with the drop in uptake of childhood immunizations in Ireland we have seen recent outbreaks of measles and whooping-cough. And both of these conditions can kill children. This is completely preventable with high vaccination uptake rates.

Another important consideration is the freedom of international travel that exists nowadays. Diseases can be brought into a country by people who travel to or from an area where there might have been an outbreak.

Your placenta is a multi-talented brand new organ that passes oxygen and nutrients from your blood stream to your growing baby. It also protects your baby from infection and helps to remove your baby's 'waste products', such as carbon dioxide. Linked to your baby by the umbilical cord, your placenta will weigh around 1.5lb by the time your baby is born.
