Worried About Your Water Breaking?

• Worried about your water breaking in public?

• It's only a big movie-style gush for a small percentage of women.

• For most, it happens when labour is already in progress.

• If you're worried, keep these items in your bag: Extra clothes, pads, plastic bag (for wet pants)

• Put a plastic sheet on your bed in case it happens overnight.

• When your water breaks, you may trickle fluid for a few hours.

• Wear a pad (But not a tampon) for leaks.

• You can shower, but don't have sex.

• Your amniotic fluid should be clear and odourless.

• If it's brown or green, call your ob or midwife right away.

• That can mean the baby's had a bowel movement in utero.

• If you're not already having contractions, they should start in the next 12 to 24 hours.

• Get excited, because your baby is on its way!
