Having a baby changes you physically and emotionally. You won’t feel the same anymore and you won’t lose your baby weight straight away, do give yourself some time.
Taking care of yourself may well be low on your list of priorities, but it’s really important that you stay healthy for the sake of you and for the sake of your baby.
You really shouldn’t go on a crash diet, but you can think about cutting down on sugar and fats. We do encourage breastfeeding as this does use additional calories.
To lose weight healthily you can try various things. Base your meals around starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta. Do try to use wholegrain whenever possible.
Try and eat fibre-rich foods such as fruit, vegetables, oats and lentils and do eat five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables daily. Try to avoid fried foods, sugary confectionary such as cakes and biscuits, and fizzy drinks.
Also, do try to avoid take-away and fast foods. We do recommend you eat a good breakfast. Make activities such as walking, swimming and cycling part of your everyday life.
You might actually decide that now is not the right time to concentrate on your weight. It’s really important to leave time to lose weight in between each pregnancy, so that you start each pregnancy in the best of health.
