At the miraculous moment of fertilization – when the egg of a woman and the sperm of a man unite, a new human life begins. From this moment on, it will take approximately nine months for the baby to develop and be ready to be born.
Only 5 % of the babies are born exactly on their due dates. The long awaited day is near and soon you will be holding your baby in your arms. Your baby has lost his lanugo hair although you may still find some at his back and on his forehead.
Your baby’s eyes will be blue at birth but this can change in the weeks to come. Some babies arrive a bit earlier, others a bit later, but they do arrive! So, much luck and happiness with the new baby in your life!
The average baby will be about 7.5 pounds (3.4 kilograms) and 20 inches long at birth. The placenta will weigh about one eighth the size of the baby and the umbilical cord will be about the same length as the baby.

Embryo week 9-10. Notable in the this fetus is an extraembryonic coelom in the umbilical cord. Loops of intestine are seen as a bulge of orange material in the cord near it's attachment to the abdominal wall. These loops will withdraw at arould week 11.
