A very common question is, "Are my breasts going to sag down to my knees after I finish breast feeding?" or, "What's going to happen to my breasts after I finish breast feeding?"
It's very hard to tell. A lot of it depends on how much weight you gain during your pregnancy. It really doesn't have to do with breast feeding per se. A lot of women, there is a myth that their breasts are stretched out or they're smaller after they've breastfed. But that's really more an issue of weight gain and loss and gain and loss and depending on how quickly you've had baby after baby, that's more the issue than anything else.
At the same time, we do have a ligament which holds up the breast, called the Cooper's ligament, otherwise known as Cooper's Droopers. As we get older, that ligament starts to wear and tear. That's when our breasts start to fall. A lot of women start to blame it on the breastfeeding thinking the baby was always pulling, and it really doesn't have to do with that, other than age.
So we don't want to go blaming breastfeeding for everything. There are some women who find that their breasts stayed larger after they had babies and after they breastfed. And some who have virtually nothing left. But again in most cases it's really from the wear and tear on your body from the pregnancy and the weight loss and the weight gain and those ligaments doing their work.
