Colic can be very distressing for both you and your baby, this short routine provides some settling techniques with massage and yoga for your baby. Before you undress your baby or beginning the massage, make eye contact with your little one and gently stroke them from head to toe, several times.
Apply some oil to your hands, it's important to use a natural oil without any chemicals as your baby may be putting their hands in their mouth. Place both hands on your baby's tummy and make a sweeping motion, alternating the palms of your hands, this soothing stroke will help warm up the area.
Next, using the finger tips of one of your hands make a circular movement around the belly button, in a clockwise direction. Using your index finger, make small circles all around the belly button, still moving in a clockwise direction. This is a deep stroke, and literally massages the intestines.
Finally, hold onto your baby's calves, gently bring the knees up towards the belly and hold for a few seconds. Repeat this a few times. This miracle hold is wonderful for helping to settle a colic-y baby. Kneel with your baby on your lap, facing out. One arm across the chest, and the other hand through the legs.
Now slowly bring one knee up and come to standing, once you're standing. Gently tilt your baby forward so the belly and chest are resting across your lower arms. Make sure both arms are hanging over yours.
